Greetings, Apes!

We are back from the MIT Reality Hackathon, and couldn't be more tired yet energized! We had the privilege of seeing some incredible projects come to life and witness the power of what can be achieved when a diverse group of people in XR come together.

The Spatial Ape team, in fact, were very much in the thick of it this year as we were sponsoring and mentoring the team projects. This is especially true because it was at the hack that we released our open source project, Foundry into the wild for the very first time, so we were hands-on with several teams who chose to use it.

I look forward to talking with you and some of the Reality Hack participants (many of which run or work with XR companies) at our next meetup.

Industry Updates:

• ​AltSpaceVR to be shut down this March…In crazy VR news, Altspace is being shut down by Microsoft. Altspace is near and dear to our hearts as it’s where Spatial Ape got started and where we got re-started again….. Altspace is such a great no-drama social VR experience and helped start countless VR communities, sad to see it go. It could end up being a boon for VR creatives like us though. As more VR communities look elsewhere, we can help convince them to build their own multiplayer VR environments. Coincidentally, that is the entire focus of our sister company, Foundry.

• Another slightly sad bit of news: Apple may have to delay the release of its AR glasses (that were going to follow their VR headset).
